When it Hurts to Trust The Lord

What if I told you the answer was “no,” or the answer was “not now,” would you still trust in the Lord? What if it felt like God wasn't speaking or had turned a deaf ear to you, would you still trust Him? I ask these questions, because one must realize that our faith is not tested on the mountaintop, but in the valley. Our beliefs, convictions, and standards are established when everything seems to be wrong.

I once stated there are people I trust but very few I trust under torture. The truth of the matter is there's only one person that has proven to be trustworthy despite torture and that is Jesus Christ. I'm not talking about the torture of a whip, a crown of thorns, or nails in his hands and feet. I'm not even talking about the cross. I'm talking about raw humanity - our humanity.

We question, and we beg. We spiritually spit in his face time after time, yet he is still there. Lauren Daigle penned thought provoking lyrics in her song “Trust in You.” As a singer songwriter, I can only imagine the struggle it took to sing those words. I won't lie to you, it is hard to trust in God, when things aren't going your way. It does hurt to trust in the Lord, when it seems like your world is crashing.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 states, “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

I encourage you to be like the tree planted by the water. When the winds blow, and storms come, they dig deeper and they allow their roots to grow deep into the foundation of the earth. Storms will come, your tears may fall like rain against the winds of rejection, heartache, sickness, and struggle.

This is your opportunity to dig deep into the foundation of the greatest relationship you will ever experience. It has been said that the foundation of a good relationship is trust and communication. Do not neglect this season of your life. Foster growth in your soul, mind and spirit.
